Top 6 Diamond Shapes

Shopping for diamonds can be hard, we've given you a quick guide of the top 6 stones we get asked about below. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Radiant

The brilliance this stone has is incredible. Since it has 70 facets, it can hide inclusions pretty easy. In our opinion, it has the best sparkle out of any stone shape. Radiants do show their color grade, so try to stick around the D-H range if you don't want a warmer looking stone. You don't need the highest clarity when looking for an eye clean radiant stone. Try finding a radiant with a SI1 clarity or better.

Pear

Look for Pears where the pointed end of the stone is eye clean. It's easier to see inclusions on that part so watch out. Get this cut if you want a stone that looks bigger than it's actual carat weight. The elongated shape paired with finding a stone that has a ratio of 1.5 or higher will give you excellent finger coverage.

Oval

Ovals have just as much sparkle as round cuts and the shape gives you good finger coverage. With 58 facets, this shape sparkles from every angle and will allow you to get a stone that is lower in clarity such as an SI2. Ovals can hide small inclusions pretty well. They reflect more white light, so try not to go below an I color.

Cushion

Cushions have 58 facets. Inclusions and imperfections can be a little harder to hide in a cushion. With cushions, you can go as low as a SI2 clarity. Just make sure its eye clean. If you want a square cushion, get a ratio of 1.1-1.15. If you want an elongated cushion, a ratio of 1.2 or higher will give you the look you want.

Round

The OG of diamonds. With 57 facets, there's a reason this shape will never go out of style. This cut looks great on all finger sizes and because of the facets, you can hide more inclusions. Which means a lower clarity and color grade won't really be noticeable. If your budget is modest, a round cut stone might be the perfect selection.

Emerald

When it comes to emeralds, what you see is what you get. They're cut in a way that makes them less forgiving of almost any inclusions inside. The great thing about Emeralds is that they don't show color as much as Pear, Oval and Radiant cut stones. If you have your heart set on an Emerald, opt for a higher clarity, color of I or higher and a ratio of around 1.45.
